“Never leave that till tomorrow which you can do today.”–Benjamin Franklin

Seasons change. Fashions change. Laws change. And so should the plans that are designed to provide a stable financial future for ourselves and our loved ones. In fact, it can be helpful to think of your estate and financial planning as an ongoing process that needs to be reviewed from time to time.

Estate plans are a “snapshot” capturing a picture at only one point in time and most likely will need to be periodically updated to ensure that they continue to represent your wishes. Taking the time to consider the effect of changes on our plans can be rewarding and bring peace of mind.

PERIODIC REVIEWS

Obsolete estate plans may actually cause you and your loved ones more heartaches and problems than having no plans at all. Reviewing goals with professional advisors on a regular basis helps assure that your wishes will ultimately be carried out with a minimum of expense and delay. Most changes can be accomplished with simple adjustments to existing plans, although major changes in your life may require a fresh look.

ACT TODAY

By taking the time to review and update your plans today, rather than putting it off until tomorrow, you will help ensure that your family, friends, and others will benefit in the ways you desire. You may find that through careful planning you can provide for special gifts that will benefit future generations of University of Alabama students as well.

As in other issues of The Crimson Legacy, we have asked friends of the University to share their thoughts on this important subject. We hope you find this information helpful as you consider your plans.
